Turning personality insight into player development

Every IMPACT assessment is a highly personalized profile designed specifically to help you thrive as an elite player. Unlike basic personality tests that just give you types or traits, your report goes much deeper, offering real-world development guidance based on how you learn, lead, train, and respond to pressure

Introduction to the IMPACT assessments

Helping young athletes understand themselves so they can grow with confidence

Completing Coaching Fundamentools’ unique IMPACT assessment generates a set of high individualised reports that are sport-focused personality and behaviour tools, created especially for youth, teenage, and elite athletes and which highlight the specific and unique combination of traits you possess out of the thousands of potential combinations available.

The purpose of the reports is simple: to help coaches, parents, and players understand how the individual who has taken the assessment, learns, communicates, competes, and responds to the demands of the sport they are playing. The player and everyone who supports or coaches them gains an invaluable aid to understanding how to help develop their confidence, motivation and long-term develop more effectively.

‍Built on recognised psychological frameworks — including personality research, learning styles, mindset theory, and behavioural analysis — the IMPACT assessments adapt proven science into clear, practical guidance for sportspeople. Every question, scenario, and explanation is written in age-appropriate language that reflects real sporting experiences, making it relevant and easy for young athletes to understand.‍

What makes IMPACT different is its focus on development rather than judgement. There are no right or wrong answers. Instead, the assessments help families and coaches appreciate the player’s natural style and potentially hidden attributes, highlighting how they think, behave, and connect with others on and off the pitch. The goal is not to label athletes, but to unlock their potential and show how small changes in communication, environment, or coaching approach can make a big difference to both their enjoyment of their sport and their IMPACT upon it.

“Understand the person, coach the player”

How does it work?

The IMPACT assessment helps everyone around a young athlete understand the Individual, maximise their Mindset, unlock their Potential, adapt their Approach, build stronger Connections, and improve Teamwork. Above all, it provides a way to see the person behind the performance — and give them the best chance to thrive in sport, school, and everyday life.

More than just another personality test

The IMPACT assessment is not a one-size-fits-all tool. It draws on the principles behind several modern psychological models that have been used for decades in education, sport, and leadership development. We’ve combined these models to provide a multi-dimensional picture of each athlete, focusing on how they think, learn, communicate, and perform under pressure.

Personality trait models

how stable patterns like resilience, emotional regulation & sociability show up.

Motivational and mindset theory

e.g. what drives an athlete,
how they view effort, failure, and growth

Cognitive and learning preferences

e.g. how they take in
information and apply it in training and matches

Rather than focusing on labels, our reports offer practical coaching insight.

The goal is to help coaches and parents support each player’s unique strengths, challenges, and learning styles.

Personality insights should never be used to judge ability or make selection decisions. Instead, they offer a starting point for conversations, helping you better understand how a player:
Responds to pressure or setbacks
Learns best in tactical or technical environments
Communicates with teammates and coaches
Leads (or prefers to be led)
Handles conflict, criticism, or change

Every teenage athlete is developing rapidly — emotionally, physically, and mentally. That’s why we see our assessments as snapshots, not fixed portraits. We encourage retesting over time, so that your coaching evolves as your players do.

No single test can capture the full picture of a person. That’s why IMPACT  draws from several evidence-based models, giving you a more  complete, reliable, and nuanced view of your athlete. This approach  allows us to:
Cross-check insights for greater confidence
Spot patterns that single measures can miss
Tailor coaching strategies with precision and personalisation

This multi-layered view reduces bias and highlights the small but meaningful factors that can unlock performance and wellbeing.

In elite sport, it’s often the smallest improvements that create the  biggest difference. A shift in how a player receives feedback, a tweak to  how they’re motivated, or a new way of framing setbacks can all have a  major impact. The IMPACT report helps identify these opportunities for  marginal gains, guiding coaches to:
Adjust communication styles
Motivate players in ways that truly resonate
Use strengths-based development
Create clearer roles that suit each player’s natural style

These insights aren’t just for game day — they influence every interaction, team talk, and training session.

Teenagers are still figuring out who they are — as people and as athletes. Their personalities are not fixed. They’re shaped by experience, feedback, and opportunity. That’s why we see our role not just as assessing players, but helping coaches support change and growth in ways that feel  grounded, supportive, and comfortably complex — never overwhelming.
Encourages self-awareness in athletes
Helps players build resilience and emotional control
Reinforces a growth mindset, where learning and effort matter more than natural talent
Builds team cohesion by improving interpersonal understanding

Positive Psychology
Personality science
Adolescent development and neuroplasticity
Coaching research and applied sport psychology

But we’ve turned all of that into a clear, easy-to-read report that gives practical advice you can use right away.

We don’t expect you to be a psychologist. We expect you to be a coach, a mentor, or a parent who wants to understand your athlete better — and support them in becoming their best self, on and off the field.

Why we use multiple assessment models

No single test can capture everything about who you are as a player and person. That's why IMPACT combines several evidence-based models to give you a more complete and reliable view of yourself. This approach allows us to:

Cross-check insights for greater accuracy
Spot patterns in your behavior, mindset, & social style
Provide more precise and personal development strategies

Marginal gains through mental development

In elite sport, it's often the smallest improvements that create the biggest difference. A shift in how you receive feedback, a new way of handling pressure, or understanding your natural leadership style can all have a major impact on your performance.

Your IMPACT report helps identify these opportunities for mental marginal gains, showing you how to:

Optimize your communication style with teammates and coaches
Find motivation strategies that truly work for you
Use your natural strengths more effectively
Build resilience and mental toughness in your own unique way

Frequently asked questions

How long does the assessment take?

The assessment takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. We recommend doing it when you're relaxed and can focus without distractions for the most accurate results.

What will I learn about myself?

You'll discover your core personality type, mental strengths, areas for development, how you respond under pressure, your learning style, leadership approach, and specific strategies for improving both your mental game and overall performance.

How does this help my relationship with my coach?

If you share your report, your coach receives insights about how you're naturally motivated, how you prefer to receive feedback, what coaching approaches work best for your personality type, and how to create the optimal training environment for you. This leads to more effective coaching and better communication.

Is my information private?

Your detailed report is confidential and only shared with people you choose (like your coach or parents). Your privacy and trust are our top priorities.

What if I don't agree with my results?

The assessment is scientifically validated, but if something doesn't feel right, we encourage discussion with your coach or our support team. Sometimes insights take time to fully understand and accept, and your personality continues developing as you grow.

Can I retake the assessment?

Absolutely! We actually recommend retesting over time as you develop as an athlete and person. Your personality isn't fixed - it evolves, and your coaching and development approach should evolve with it.
